Disgraced rapper Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs is suing US broadcast network NBC, its streaming service Peacock and production company Ample over their documentary Diddy: The Making of a Bad Boy.

Combs is pursuing the broadcaster and production company for US$100m for reputational and financial harm, claiming their recently aired doc about him was defamatory.

The rapper is currently on remand in New York awaiting a trial on sex trafficking and racketeering charges, which he denies.

His lawyers say Diddy: The Making of a Bad Boy contains false statements and “baselessly jumps to the conclusion that Mr Combs is a monster.”

The lawsuit continues: “The entire premise of the documentary assumes Mr Combs has committed numerous heinous crimes, including serial murder, rape of minors and sex trafficking of minors.”

Combs’ lawyer Erica Wolff said NBC, Peacock and Ample “made a conscious decision to line their own pockets at the expense of truth, decency and basic standards of professional journalism” and “maliciously and recklessly broadcast outrageous lies.”

The companies have yet to comment.

Several other programmes about the case have also been commissioned. Warner Bros Discovery’s ID has a project in the works from Maxine Productions and The Intellectual Property Corporation in association with Rolling Stone Film, while Diddy: In Plain Sight has been commissioned by Channel 4 in the UK from All3Media’s Lion TV.
